THE ACADEMIC PROGRAMME OF THE INSTITUTION MAINLY CONSISTS OF SECTIONS ‘A & B’ EXAMINATIONS, POPULARLY KNOWN AS THE AMIIE EXAMINATION.

The IIE is a multi-disciplinary body responsible for qualifying engineers and setting standards for training and admission of engineers. Admission is normally into one of the 61+ Disciplines. Each Discipline has its Discipline Advisory Panel.

AMIIE in AIR CONDITIONING ENGINEERING

About

Air conditioning (AC) engineers require some formal education. Learn about the training, job duties and requirements to see if this is the right career for you.

Air conditioning engineers are concerned about internal climate control and are responsible for the air quality of homes and businesses. Ideally an AC engineer would be mechanically minded and have an interest in maintaining a comfortable climate.

Career

AC engineers, also known as AC technicians, install and maintain the mechanical and electrical components of air conditioning systems. They diagnose and repair air-conditioning problems in homes, offices, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities. Their work ensures that cooling systems function efficiently, providing comfort and proper ventilation.

AC engineers perform routine maintenance, including cleaning filters, checking refrigerant levels, and ensuring the system operates within the correct pressure and temperature limits. They use specialized tools and equipment to test the performance of cooling systems, detecting faults and making necessary adjustments. In addition, they may replace worn-out or damaged parts to enhance system efficiency and longevity.

They must understand refrigeration cycles, electrical circuits, and airflow dynamics to optimize performance. In commercial and industrial settings, AC engineers handle large HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, ensuring climate control for manufacturing units, hospitals, shopping malls, and data centers.

Job opportunities for AC engineers exist in HVAC companies, manufacturing firms, real estate projects, and maintenance services. Some may also work as independent contractors, offering repair and installation services for residential and commercial clients.

Job Prospects

Air conditioning engineers support, maintain and help design air conditioning systems, often for large and complex buildings like factories. According to the Whole Building Design Guide, an air conditioning engineer may also be referred to as a type of mechanical engineer of record. Air conditioning engineers primarily address seven topics: heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, ventilating and effectiveness, according to the Whole Building Design Guide. Engineers are key contributors to a project in its developing stages, providing information on the requirements and feasibility of a project, as well as the resulting costs.

Remuneration

Statistics provided by the BLS indicated that future job growth for air conditioning engineers might remain steady, since employment growth for mechanical engineers was estimated to grow 5% from 2014-2024. The median salary for mechanical engineers was $83,590 in May 2015, according to the BLS.
