About

Civil Engineering is a devision of Engineering which is concern with the building, designing, planning and maintenance of material and naturally build surroundings. It is one of the oldest engineering subject and the largest field of engineering. This field mainly comprises of Industrial Plant Buildings, Transmission Towers/Lines, Water Works, River Navigation, Airport Runways, Irrigation Canal, Power Plant, Dams, Bridges, Canal, Highways.

Career

Civil Engineers are employed in all major construction project carried out by the government, particularly those involving the public works department, airports, ports, harbours, water and seaways boards, railways, military, engineering service, consultancy services etc.

Job Prospects

Civil Engineers are in great demand to uphold and repair current facilities and structures and to construct new buildings. There are lot of career opportunities in this field.

Remuneration

Civil Engineering is one of the highly rewarding field those employed in government departments get their initial income around Rs. 8000/- to Rs. 12000/- while superior can earn about Rs. 20000/-. Consultancy in this field is also highly remunerative depending upon nature and number of clients.

Project Work

As a part of Associate Membership curriculum, the member of IIE are required to do a research oriented project in their final year. The aim of this project is to impart students a flavour of design, innovation and research.
